SPHAERA 2017 – 2018
My interest in water and concern for the well-being of our seas, oceans, rivers and lakes is ever growing. It is now common knowledge that our oceans are under serious threat from pollution. Our relationship with nature remains ambivalent. We love it but we are not capable of taking care of it. We once believed nature as infinite, yet now it has become tangibly finite.
For this series, I focus and scan the surface of the water, as I am mesmerised by the constant and subtle changes in light, texture, lines, patterns and colours. I chose to represent these images in a circle within a square for the symbolic value of these two universal shapes. The square represents the “earthly” - that which in some ways “limits” the divine. It symbolizes the four corners of the earth or the four cardinal points. The circle on the other hand, takes us beyond: it suggests a moon or another planet. It also symbolises the wheel, something in constant movement as are the sea and the passing of time. Or the number zero. An embryo. Pure potential in the making.

Mi interés en el agua y mi preocupación por el bienestar de nuestros mares, océanos, ríos y lagos crece constantemente. Es de conocimiento común que nuestros océanos están seriamente amenazados por la contaminación. Nuestra relación con la naturaleza sigue siendo ambivalente. La amamos pero no somos capaces de cuidarla. Una vez creímos que la naturaleza era infinita, pero ahora se ha vuelto tangiblemente finita.
Para esta serie, me enfoco y escaneo la superficie del agua, cautivada por los constantes y sutiles cambios en la luz, la textura, las líneas. Elegíorepresentar estas imágenes en un círculo dentro de un cuadrado por el valor simbólico de estas dos formas universales. El cuadrado representa lo "terrenal" - aquello que de alguna forma "limita" lo divino. Simboliza los cuatro esquinas de la tierra o los cuatro puntos cardinales. El círculo, en cambio, nos lleva más allá: sugiere una luna u otro planeta. También simboliza la rueda, algo en constante movimiento como lo son el mar y el paso del tiempo. O el número cero. Un embrión. Potencial puro en proceso de realización.
